Carlo Fulde

Erasmus+ trainee

Carlo Fulde joined the Ratz lab as an Erasmus+ trainee in 2024. Carlo is currently enrolled at the University of Cologne, Germany, where he is studying to obtain a masters degree in biochemistry. He previously worked in the lab of Niels H. Gehring (University of Cologne, Germany) to investigate the effects of SMG7 depletion on mRNA nonsense-mediated decay as well as its effect on the endonucleolytic cleavage pattern on SMG6 mRNA.

Carlo obtained a BSc Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the Jacobs University Bremen, Germany. His thesis work on substrate binding behavior of serine proteases has been in collaboration with the Center for Tumor Biology and Immunology (Philipps-University Marburg, Germany).

Outside of the lab, Carlo plays the saxophone and enjoys the competitive spirit of Latin formation dancing. Snowboarding in the winter is also a passionate hobby of his, as well as building the occasional Lego set.
